I find the subject of airway reporting points fascinating!
OK, so they are all boring combinations of five letters - right?
Wrong! Somebody, somewhere has made up the names. They are, by and large, not picked at random and have some sort of meaning. Let's see how comprehensive an encyclopedia we can compile - after all, memories fade over time and people will forget.
My apologies that the site has not been updated recently, through a lack of available time. I have decided that updates of the site need to be scaled back in line with the original objectives as set out above. This means that I am no longer updating the site following each issue of the AIP. As new point names are (allegedly) computer generated, it is unlikely that they will have any special meaning.
Please let me know of any points, old or new, where there is something worth recording about the name - that will still get done. In the meantime, thank you to everyone that has e/mailed me expressing concern because the site has not been updated recently.
Some are in groups, usually in the same general area.
There are some interesting regional groups too.
If you are new to this, I have a short historical background.
For completeness, I have also included details of the major beacons.
A very big thank you is due to all those who have contributed to the information available here.
Lot's of trivia has been unearthed, mainly by regular contributors to PPRuNe. Talking of PPRuNe, some pictures from the Manchester Bash on 23 November 2001 can be found here.
Your assistance with documenting more information would be much appreciated, either using the feedback facility, or by e/mail.
